THE COMPTROLLER GENERAL OF CUSTOMS, BASHIR ADEWALE ADENIYI, MFR

In a congratulatory message signed by the President General of the apex Igbo maritime umbrella body, His Royal Majesty Eze Amb Damian Emeka Obianigwe KSM, JP, and made available to the media, he described the Comptroller General of Customs as a gold fish that has no hiding place.

According to the Royal Father, “the CGC Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, is like a gold fish that has no hiding place. His achievements as CGC in less than two years he assumed office remain amazing testimonials.”

HRM EZE AMB DAMIAN EMEKA OBIANIGWE, KSM, JP, THE PRESIDENT GENERAL OF ASIMPIN

“Igbo Maritime Practitioners in Nigeria -ASIMPIN is proud of his leadership ingenuity, and we are not left out of the ongoing celebration of an icon and seasoned public officer.”

As we pray God Almighty to grant him the wisdom and enablement to discharge his duties as the helmsman of the Nigeria Customs Service and that of World Customs Organization (WCO). We urge him to utilize the opportunity given to him to facilitate trade, especially, within the African West Coast, by pushing for the full take off of the
African Continental Free Trade Area agreement.”

Recall that under the agreement, AfCFTA members are committed to eliminating tariffs on most goods and services over a period of 5, 10, or 13 years, depending on the country’s level of development or the nature of the products. General long-term objectives include creating a single, liberalised market; reducing barriers to capital and labour to facilitate investment; developing regional infrastructure; and establishing a continental customs union. The overall aims of AfCFTA are to increase socioeconomic development, reduce poverty, and make Africa more competitive in the global economy.

Mr Adeniyi was on 28th of June in Brussels, the capital City of Belgium, elected as Chairman of the world Customs apex body, a 73 year old organization, making him the first Nigerian ever to hold the prestigious office.
