only industry I have worked in since after my one year mandatory service
(NYSC).
I started my career as a young man during the NPA era; it was not really
easy back then.
The NPA was fully in charge of the ports, and it was quite challenging
getting things done without forcing your way through was impossible, we struggled to get anything done those days, thank Almighty Allah for technology deployment and advancement. Documentation was
done manually then, it was only Direct Trade Input (DTI) those days. From Risk Assessment Report (RAR) for general cargo we migrated to
Pre Arrival Assessment Report (PAAR).”
“I am an Accountant and a politician as well but freight forwarding has been the springboard.”

To young freight forwarders, l advise them to be patient, focused and trustworthy.
Frankly speaking, most of our young people do not have patience, they are afraid of facing challenges.
They want to start making
it immediately they venture into the field without learning the job.
You lay your foundation in the industry by knowing the nitty – gritty of the job first.
Mastering your documents and knowing the terminologies, the HS
Codes, the Tariff and others is very important. I advise them to always learn
the job and shun any form of distraction; freight forwarding is a noble
profession.
