…As individuals and groups converged in his honour

By Mcanthony Onuoha

Friday, November 24th, 2023, saw families, friends, professional colleagues, religious and social groups converge for service of songs/wake for late maritime practitioner, philantronpist and Chairman, Far East Nigeria Limited, Prince George Chukwuma Ndubuisi (1965-2023).

The Service of Songs which was coordinated by the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Seed of Abraham Parish, was held at Enugwu-Ukwu Community Development Union (ECDU), Lagos Unity Hall, No. 3-5 Enugwu-Ukwu Street, Lakeview Estate, Phase 11, By Capital Oil Filling Station, Amuwo Odofin, Lagos. It was a long day of tributes and eulogies as family and Church members, friends and mentees of Prince George AKA Arafat, took their turns to recall some special moments they had together.

It was indeed a moment of tears and nostalgia as some of those who gathered for the wake could not hold back their emotions. Some of the groups present were Nobis Tennis Club, Ondo Plaza Tradefair Tennis Club, Uturu Development Union, Women Wing, Uturu Development Union, Men Wing, Sisters Fellowship International, RCCG, Seed of Abraham Parish, Freight Forwarders, Platinum Club, In-laws, University of Lagos Post Graduate Alumni Association, Business Associates and social clubs.

A close friend of the family, Lady Amara Obi, expressed sadness over the death of Prince George Ndubuisi, describing it as unfortunate. In her words, “Prince George was a very good man, a man who loved seeing people smile, my heart goes out to his wife, my beloved sister and friend, Mrs. Amaka Ndubuisi and her children, l pray God Almighty to grant them favour in every area, be their father and husband, and all those things that Prince George didn’t accomplish in his life time, may God Almighty grant unto his wife and children the grace to achieve them all. I pray God to grant them the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss and may his gentle soul rest in peace”.

Chief Jerry Azuma, Nnanyerugo 1 of Uturu described Prince George Ndubuisi’s death as a shocker. ” The news of his death came to me and the entire Uturu Development Union, home and abroad, as a very big shock. The Uturu Community is mourning Prince George Ndubuisi. Other people have been dying but this particular death devastated the Uturu Community because Prince George had no dull moments, very generous, loving and kind, l have cried, l have shed tears because it is one death that has been very difficult for me to embrace its reality. He touched the lives of many from my community. George was a generous man, a Philanthropist both in the village and in Lagos, he never segregated. To his family, l want to encourage them to take heart, God knows the best. Whatever that was left for George to accomplish, may God grant his family the grace to accomplish them all. May his soul find eternal rest”.

Lady Mrs. Nneka Akwara, is President, Sisters Fellowship International, a non denominational organization. “Mrs Amaka Ndubuisi is our Vice President, a woman that loves God, a committed child of God who doesn’t like seeing people cry, a giver, a woman with a large heart. Honestly l can tell you that l am still in shock over her husband’s death. Prince George Ndubuisi’s death is one of the most shocking news l have received in my life time, and l can tell you that l am still struggling to embrace its reality. I was called by the wife, Mrs. Amaka Ndubuisi, to come to the hospital, and when l got there, he was already dead, l was one of the first persons to get there. Upon that, we prayed for about four hours because l never believed he was dead. Even when the management told us to leave the room that they wanted to clean up the body, l refused because l never believed he was dead. It was a terrible moment of my life. To the wife and children, God knows what to say to their hearts, may HE speak to them and grant them the fortitude to bear this painful loss.”

Officiating Ministers at the event were:
Pastor/ Elder Patrick Ubah, Pastor Williams Odafe Miller, Assistant Pastor Zinsu Amosu, Deaconess Williams Opetunde, Deacon Adebimpe Olaomo Adewunmi, Deaconess Omobonike Adesanya and Deaconess Opeyemi Amosu.

Amazing Grace;
What A Friend We Have In Jesus;
Blessed Assurance;
There Is Not A Friend Like;
Till We Meet Again;
When A Peace Like A River;
God Sent His Son They Call Him Jesus; and Rock Of Ages were among the hymns sang at the Service of Songs.

The soothing rendition below, courtesy, Ndubuisi Family, was a precious take-home to everyone who believes that life is indeed transient and that the saints have a better place to go after here.

“Life is but a stopping place
A poem can go in this area if desired
A pause in what’s to be,
A resting place alone the road,
To sweet eternity.
We all have different journeys,
Different paths along the ways,
We all were meant to learn some things,
But never meant to learn to stay…
Our destination is a place,
Far greater than we know”.

May Prince George Chukwuma Ndubuisi’s soul find eternal rest !
