Customs Introduces 48 Hour Clearance Time With One -Stop -Shop

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has launched a One-Stop-Shop (OSS) initiative to significantly reduce cargo clearance time from the previous 21 days to a target of 48 hours.

Zone A who represented the Comptroller General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, as they met with stakeholders to discuss the Service’s modernisation agenda.
According to him, this reform integrates various Customs units into a single, digital platform, using the B’Odogwu digital platform to enable real-time data sharing, unified documentation, and streamlined processes. Key details include improved transparency, reduced duplication of effort, and a more business-friendly environment for traders.
Key details of the One-Stop-Shop (OSS) initiative:
Reduced Clearance Time: The primary goal is to reduce the average cargo clearance time from approximately 21 days to 48 hours.
Digital Integration: The system is supported by the B’Odogwu digital platform, which centralizes customs units for a unified and efficient process.
Streamlined Operations: It aims to eliminate duplicated efforts by creating a single point of contact for all customs-related activities.
Enhanced Transparency and Accountability: The initiative promotes greater transparency and accountability by providing real-time data sharing and consistent documentation across all units.
Improved Business Environment: The OSS is expected to make operations more predictable and business-friendly, boosting trader confidence and aligning with the Federal Government’s Ease of Doing Business policy.
Alignment with Global Standards: This reform aligns with the World Trade Organization’s (WTO) Trade Facilitation Agreement.
Phased Rollout: The initiative is being piloted at select locations like Apapa, Tincan Island, and the airport before a nationwide implementation.
Support and Backing: The initiative has the full support of the NCS management and is backed by the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023.
