The Congress of Nigerian Maritime Media Practitioners (CONMMEP), a Media Advocacy group, has finalized plans for its 2026 Annual General Meeting (AGM), Lecture and Awards Ceremony.

Chief Dr Eugene Nweke, Head of Research, SEREC.

The event, themed _”Maritime Security, Trade Facilitation and The Media”_, will hold for two days in Lagos.

As the nation is about entering electioneering season CONMMEP’s lecture aims at looking at dangers of proliferation of small arms and hard drugs, and how this trend will be reduced to the barest minimum.
The lecture would focus on the role of the media in encouraging security agencies at the borders especially the customs in curbing the menace.

According to the General Secretary, Mr. Lod Onyeji, the gathering would enable members to review the association’s activities, recognise outstanding contributions in the maritime industry, and chart a strategic course for the future.

The event will commence at 10AM on Thursday,  25th June 2026, at  Presken Hotel, Awolowo Way, Ikeja, Lagos, Opposite Lagos Airport Hotel.

Activities include a keynote lecture titled _”The Role of Media in Curbing Smuggling in Nigeria’s Maritime Corridor”_ to be delivered by renowned Maritime Guru and Former President of National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders – NAGAFF, as well as Head of Research, Sea Empowerment and Research Center (SEREC), Chief Dr Eugene Nweke, RFF.

An Awards Ceremony will also honour officers and individuals who have distinguished themselves through exceptional service to the maritime sector.

Comrade Udo Onyeka, CONMMEP President.

Friday, 26th June 2026 which is Day 2 of the event, will be the Annual General Meeting and Strategy Planning Session same time. The session will be strictly internal and would provide a platform for members to deliberate on the growth, development, and future direction of the association.

The Secretariat urges all members to attend both sessions punctually and participate actively. Members are expected to be seated before the commencement of activities as attendance will be strictly recorded.

Speaking on the significance of the event, CONMMEP President, Mr. Udo Onyeka, stated that the AGM remains a vital forum for strengthening professional collaboration among maritime media practitioners and for advancing initiatives that support the maritime industry.

Members are encouraged to make adequate arrangements to attend and contribute meaningfully to discussions that will shape the future of CONMMEP and maritime media practice.
