The Acting Area Controller of Ogun 1 Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, Comptroller OO Afeni, has assured smugglers and economic sabbateurs prowling the axis of consistent onslaught.

The Acting Controller made the assurance on Thursday, 19th of February, 2026, when he received the leadership of Congress of Nigerian Maritime Media Practitioners (CONMMEP) who paid him a courtesy visit at the Command.

Speaking, the President of CONMMEP, Comrade Udo Onyeka, expressed confidence in the abilities of Comptroller Afeni and his team to subdue economic sabbateurs within the axis and bring them to book.

Responding, Comptroller Afeni solicited stronger collaboration between the Nigeria Customs Service and the Maritime Media. He went further to assure the leadership of CONMMEP of the his team’s unwavering commitment to intensifying the ongoing onslaught against smugglers. He mentioned some vulnerable spots within the Command and how his team have continued to triumph against economic sabbateurs amidst all odds.

On Community welfare, Comptroller Afeni disclosed that the Nigeria Customs has continued to carry out its Corporate Social Responsibilities(CSR), providing educational and health care facilities in some communities.
He mentioned a scale up on intelligence gathering within and around the axis, and some skirmishes that happened in some communities in January, inspite of which over seven thousand (7,000) parcels of cannabis were intercepted and handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), while over six thousand (6,000) parcels are yet to be handed over. And these were achieved in less than one month of his assumption of office. Recall that Deputy Comptroller OO Afeni assumed office as Acting Customs Area Controller, Ogun 1 Command, in December, 2026.

While describing journalists as dependable allies, the Controller tasked them on genuine and verifiable reporting, and strongly stated that his Command was never averse to constructive criticism.

In his vote of thanks, the Former President of CONMMEP, Alhaji Tunde Umar-Daniah, thanked Comptroller Afeni and his team for their patriotism. He described the Acting Controller as a seasoned officer whose administrative ability and professionalism were not in doubt, expressing optimism that he would surpass the expectations of many at the Border Station.
