Ogun 1 Customs Area Command on Thursday, 21st of August, 2025, announced yet another colossal seizure of illicit drugs and other unwholesome items.

The volume of the recent seizures replicates the same feat recorded by the Command barely six weeks ago.

Recall that on 3rd of July 2025, the Customs Area Controller of Ogun 1 Area Command, Comptroller Godwin Otunla, in a press briefing, announced significant seizures recorded by the Command, particularly in the area of illicit drugs and their means of conveyance. During the press briefing, the Controller unequivocally committed to combat the menace of Smuggling, and promised never to bow to the antics of diehard economic saboteurs who undermine the nation’s economy and security.

Addressing journalists at Idiroko on Thursday, Compt. Otunla said he was delighted to announce that the command was poised to sustaining the momentum as it has continued to record remarkable achievements within a short period through intelligence -driven operations, resilience, and the unwavering commitment of his gallant officers.

The seizures recorded include 4, 424 bags of foreign parboiled rice, which is over 7 truckloads. 50 sacks of 1,936 coconut size parcels of Cannabis Sativa, commonly known as marijuana. 150 pieces of Used Pneumatic Tyres, 21 bales and 3 sacks of used clothing, 3 units of foreign used vehicles, commonly known as Tokunbo, including a Rolls- Royce worth billions of Naira. And 6,400 liters of Premium Motor Spirit(PMS).

According to the Controller, the Duty Paid Value (DPV) of the seized items amounted to One Billion, Four Hundred and One Million, Five Hundred and Thirty -One Thousand, Nine Hundred and Twenty – Three Naira, Ninety -Five Kobo( N1,401,531,923.95, which he said, represented a major economic loss to smugglers but a huge gain to the national economy and security.

In addition to the anti smuggling feats, the Controller said that the command has sustained efforts in revenue generation.
” I am pleased to announce that in July 2025, Ogun 1 Area Command generated a total revenue of N45,054,191.00, which is higher than the N35,327,852.00 recorded in the corresponding month of 2024. This represents a commendable increase of 27.47%. This remarkable growth is a reflection of our enhanced compliance drive, improved monitoring of border activities, and robust stakeholders engagement.”

Handing over the illicit drugs to the Commander of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Idiroko Command, for further investigation and necessary action, the Controller stated that,” this synergy is not only in compliance with government directives but also reinforced our collective determination to safeguard public health, ensure national security, and protect the future of our youths from the devastating effects of hard drugs.”

” I wish to use this opportunity to commend the gallant officers and men of Ogun 1 Area Command for their resilience and dedication. I also appreciate the support of our sister security agencies and the cooperation of patriotic members of the border communities who continue to provide credible intelligence to aid our operations.

The Controller reiterated that the fight against smuggling remained a collective responsibility, and promised to continue to build on collaboration, intelligence sharing, and innovation, in line with the policy thrust of the Comptroller General of Customs Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, dsm, fnipr, psc (+), who has been consistent in his drive for consolidation, collaboration, and innovation.

” May l once again sound a clear warning to the smugglers and their collaborators: Ogun 1 Command will not relent. We remain vigilant, resolute, and unyielding. No matter the sophistication of your tricks, our officers will continue to thwart your antics, and we shall bring the full weight of the law against you,” he vehemently stated.
