Fano Shipping Agencies Limited has hailed the election of the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, dsm, fnipr, psc(+), as Chairman of World Customs Organization (WCO) in Brussels, the Capital City of Belgium on 28th of June 2025.

THE COMPTROLLER GENERAL OF CUSTOMS, BASHIR ADEWALE ADENIYI MFR

In a congratulatory message he personally signed and made available to the media, the Chairman of Fano Group, His Royal Majesty, Eze Amb Damian Emeka Obianigwe KSM, JP, described the choice of Adeniyi as Chairman of the world Customs apex body as a great honour to Nigeria and Africa in general as it the very first time a Nigerian is chairing the 73 years old organization.

HRM EZE AMB DAMIAN EMEKA OBIANIGWE KSM, JP., CHAIRMAN, FANO GROUP

HRM Eze Obianigwe, expressed optimism that Adeniyi would deliver on the mandate and even surpass the expectations of many because of his leadership ingenuity.

The Chairman of Fano Group who is also the President General of Association of Igbo Maritime Practitioners in Nigeria -ASIMPIN, said that the Comptroller General of Customs transformed the Nigeria Customs Service in less than two years while is proof that he has the capacity to deliver on any assignment given to him.

The message reads in part:
“We at Fano Group congratulate the Comptroller General of Customs Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, on his election as Chairman of World Customs Organization(WCO). This is the very first time a Nigerian is chosen to lead the 73 years old organization. And we are not taking it for granted. We are happy that one of own is the first has been given the opportunity to Chair the world Customs apex body. It is an honour not only to Nigeria but to the entire African continent.

We celebrate the CGC and we are optimistic that he is going to perform beyond expectations. The CGC is a seasoned officer and a hyperactive performer. His itinerary as Customs Boss goes a long way to show his level of commitment and dedication to the Nigeria Customs Service. He is always on the move visiting commands, commissioning projects, engaging stakeholders at one event or the other. He is a thorough bred public officer, and we at Fano Group felicitate him on this milestone achievement.”

“Expectations were high when Bashir Adewale Adeniyi was appointed acting Comptroller General of Customs as industry stakeholders heaved a sigh of relief after Col. Hammed Ali (Rtd) left the office, and evidences on ground today has proven that some of us who never supported the idea of appointing a non Customs officer as CGC were right. The downtime we experience at Customs processing Centers (CPCs) are almost a thing of the past due to the homegrown service provider, B’Odogwu, which is one of the major achievements of the CGC.” The Royal Father stated.

The World Customs Organization (WCO) was established in 1952, it celebrated 70th anniversary in 2022. The organization is 73 years old in 2025. It was initially known as the Customs Co-operation Council (CCC).
