The National Compliance Joint Taskforce of Licensed Clearing Agents-NCJTFLCA, has called for the adoption of uniformity in Import duty payment, insisting it would increase revenue.

In a statement signed by its National Public Relations Officer, Rev. Alex Nwokedi, and made available to the Media, the Joint Taskforce said that the adoption of uniform duty regime would reduce time of delivery and improve Ease of Doing Business in the ports.

Rev.Alex Nwokedi, National Public Relations Officer, NCJTFLCA

According to the statement, “one factor contributing to inflation is the lack of uniformity in clearing goods from the ports. To address this, National Compliance Joint Taskforce ought to ensure: Consistent Customs data for consignments, especially, new ones. Uniform duty assessment across all Customs Commands.
Standardized vehicle data, including the make and date of manufacture.”

Furthermore, the group emphasized on addressing systemic issues, while appreciating that systemic problems in Customs operations had before now, been highlighted hence the intervention of NCJTFLCA remained a step in the right direction. The group said it was optimistic that standardizing processes and ensuring consistency would reduce confusion and delays, increase transparency and accountability as well as enhance economic efficiency.
