The Managing Principal of AZ De World Cargo Logistics Limited, Fwdr. Dr. Azeez Abayomi Mustapha Rff, FITMT, has commended the Apapa Command’s Area Controller, Babatunde Olomu, for his outstanding performance.

Dr. Mustapha, a seasoned freight forwarder and logistics expert, in an interface with the Editor -in- Chief of The Prestige Magazine Online and Print, Mcanthony Udochukwu Onuoha, described Comptroller Babatunde Olomu PhD, fsi, as a public officer of very rare pedigree.

He said that officers of Compt. Olomu’s ilk, if assembled together, could proffer lasting solutions to organizational/ administrative challenges, describing him as an erudite scholar and a genius.

In a quarterly revenue report that marveled maritime stakeholders, the Apapa Ports Customs Command declared a humongous sum of N694.1bn as revenue generated for the Federal Government in the First Quarter (Q1) of the year, 2025.

The Area Controller of the Command, Babatunde Olomu fsi, disclosed this when he received members of the House of Representatives Committee on Customs. Olomu stated that the 2025 Q1 figure was N205 billion higher than the N489 billion collected from January to March 2024, representing 41.8% increase.

The CAC attributed the Command’s successes to the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, and expressed optimism in the Command’s ability to surpass the N2.357 trillion it collected for the whole of 2024.

Recall that Apapa Command had on Friday, March 14, 2025, achieved a daily record breaking revenue collection of N18.9bn, which stands out as the height in the 134 year history of the Command.

Appraising the CAC, Dr. Mustapha said that what made Compt. Olomu outstanding remained his level of commitment to public service, and professionalism.

Following the First Quarter revenue declaration by various Customs Commands, Dr. Azeez Mustapha hailed the Customs Area Controller of Tincan Command, Comptroller Frank Onyeka, for achieving so much in less than six months in office. He described the CAC as a thorough bred public officer, who valued teamwork, expert in crises management and public administration. He said that Comptroller Onyeka’s tenure as Tincan CAC, would go down in history of Tincan Port Command, as very eventful and remarkable tenure going by his performance within a very short period.

Comptroller Frank Onyeka, CAC Tincan Port Command

Between January and March (Q1) Tincan Command has recorded a whooping N347.9 billion as generated revenue.

The figure, according to Compt. Onyeka, represents a 14.54% increase compared to the N303.79billon generated during the same period in 2024, an indication of the Command’s strengthened operational strategies and commitment to curbing revenue leakages. The Customs Area Controller disclosed these figures during the Committee’s recent oversight visit to the ports.

Onyeka noted that the Command’s Q1 revenue accounted for 91.2% of the quarter’s revenue target of N381.17billion and 22.81% of the annual target set at N1.52 trillion, attributing the growth to enhanced operational capacity, improved Stakeholders’ collaboration, and stricter enforcement against illegal trade practice.

Meanwhile, Dr. Mustapha hailed Comptroller Onyeka for his giant strides in interception of illicit drugs and other unwholesome imports. Recall that recently, the Command intercepted and handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), 1,863 packets of Cannabis Indica weighing 932.25kg and 97 packets of Crystal Methamphetamine, with a total street value of N8 billion.

Assistant Comptroller General of Customs (ACG) Zone A, Charles Osikhena Orbih

Meanwhile, Dr Azeez Mustapha profoundly appreciated Assistant Comptroller General of Customs (ACG) Charles Osikhena Orbih, for his commitment to strengthening the Zonal Structure.
He said that ACG Orbih believed in teamwork, innovation and engagement with relevant Stakeholders to achieve his objectives in line with the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi’s policy thrust which includes Consolidation, Collaboration, and Innovation.

Mustapha expressed optimism that ACG Orbih would leave the Customs Zonal Structure far better than he met it because of his administrative ingenuity and professionalism.
