Cheiftain of Association of Igbo Maritime Practitioners in Nigeria-ASIMPIN, Chief Sonniel Ebonyem Onochie, has cautioned members against misconduct during its Chapter elections slated for Thursday, 5th of December.

MR.CHIJIOKE NKWAZEMA, CHAIRMAN, ASIMPEC

According to a press release by ASIMPIN Electoral Commission, ASIMPEC, the elections will be conducted simultaneously for all Chapters on Thursday.

In a conversation with The Prestige Magazine Online and print, Chief Onochie appealed to members of the Association to see reasons why they must conduct themselves responsibly and not resort to violence, adding that the election should be seen as brotherly contest and not that of gladiators and arch enemies.

Chief Onochie, the MD/CEO of Real Passion Nigeria Limited, during the conversation, commended the President General of ASIMPIN, His Royal Highness, Eze Amb. Damian Emeka Obianigwe, KSM, JP, for his visionary leadership, his wise counsel and immense sacrifices to the association, which indeed, have kept it strong and united. According to Onochie, “the Royal Father has done more than expected in ASIMPIN leadership and must be commended.”

He advised all constants to be civil and embrace peace during and after the elections.

“We must understand that this election is among brothers from the same ethnicity, there are no strangers among us, and whether anyone wins or loses, he will remain an Igbo man, and will not denounce his origin. All the campaigns of calumny, hauling of invectives and throwing brickbats at one another shouldn’t have happened in the first place, gaslighting and name calling were not necessary because after all that, we still have a lot in common as one people.”

“I want to advise that we go to the election and vote for the right candidates who will commit their time to serve Ndigbo.”

“It is instructive to note that most people jostling for elective positions today don’t know how the association started, they don’t know the origin or history of ASIMPIN. I am speaking as a pioneer member and Chieftain of the association which is formerly known as Igbo Maritime Forum.”

“I want to commend ASIMPEC for a job well done. So far, they have been fair and uncompromising, and l advise them to follow the electoral guidelines strictly to ensure peaceful and orderly exercise later today,” he stated.
