Maritime journalists have been tasked on verifiable and unbiased reportage in their day to day coverage of events and happenings within and outside maritime industry.

Addressing members of Maritime Journalists Association of Nigeria( MAJAN), at their Congress held on Thursday, February 11, 2021, in Apapa, Lagos, the MAJAN President opined that maritime, as the second largest revenue generating sector for the Federal Government after oil, should not be reported with bias or sentiment as that will amount to great disservice to the sector and the Nation at large.

Comrade Ugochukwu, who stressed the need for investigative journalism, said it was imperative for reporters to always expose sharp practices and unpatriotic acts indulged in by industry players.

According to Ray Ugochukwu, investigative reports will enable government take proactive measures in combating factors militating against the growth of the sector so as to sanitize the entire system.

He went ahead and urged Media practitioners to always be fair and objective in their reportage, saying that investigative reports must always be presented with facts.

Ugochukwu disclosed that MAJAN will hold a Roundtable Chat on the SIGNIFICANCE OF ‘AFRICAN CONTINENTAL FREE TRADE AREA (AfCFTA), Agreement ‘ ,and the preparedness of maritime industry stakeholders to key into the concept.

The MAJAN Roundtable is slated for Thursday February 18, 2021, in Lagos, and the focus is on African Continental Free Trade Area(AfCFTA) Agreement, as it is a momentous issue forming discussions  across Africa at the moment.

Members of Maritime Journalists Association of Nigeria (MAJAN),will have a Roundtable Chat with select stakeholders on the particular topic, and in the end, come out with a communique that will be made public via different media platforms.

Responding to questions on the preparedness of MAJAN to hold its ‘National Maritime Summit on Apapa Traffic Gridlock’ slated for March, 2021, he said, ” we are on course. Plans are on top gear to ensure a successful outing”.

MAJAN President pointed out that, “The MAJAN Roundtable Chat on AfCFTA is equally important because recommendations from stakeholders will help government on policies formulation and implementation”.

Finally, he urged Maritime Journalists to live up to expectations in reporting the sector, and most importantly, exposing the perennial rot embedded in the system.
