An advocacy group, Society Eye Support Initiative, has joined myriads of Nigerians at home and in diaspora to congratulate the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, dsm, fnipr, psc (+), on his election as Chairman of World Customs Organization (WCO)

The election of Mr Adeniyi has excited stakeholders in the maritime/aviation sectors, officers and men of the Nigeria Customs Service, heads of parastatals as well Nigerians in diaspora.

 

 

In a congratulatory message he personally signed and made available to journalists, the National Coordinator, Prince Chinedum James – Ogoke described Adeniyi as a workaholic, hailing his administrative ingenuity. He stated that he was not surprised to hear the good news going by the achievements of the CG as Nigeria’s number one Customs officer.

 

 

The letter reads in part:
” Society Eye Support Initiative joins other well-meaning Nigerians to congratulate the Comptroller General of Customs Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, on his election as Chairman of World Customs Organization (WCO), it is a big win for Nigeria and for Africa in general. His election is a big inspiration to the our young people, it passes a message of hope to every youth. With adequate preparation diligence and hard work anyone can attain any height in life regardless of colour, l urge young people to be focused and resolute in the pursuit of their dreams “.

“Once again, Society Eye Support Initiative is proud of the CGC and we are wishing him a successful tenure.”

 

 

Mr Adeniyi was on the 28th of June, 2025, elected as Chairman, World Customs Organization during the 145th/146th WCO Council meeting in Brussels the capital city of Belgium, making him the first African to serve as Chairman of the 73 years old organization.

 

 

Society Eye Support Initiative is a non governmental organization, an advocacy group that is basically championing a nationwide campaign against drug abuse. It has been working in conjunction with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Community leaders, private school owners, healthcare service providers and entrepreneurs to sensitize young people on dangers of drug abuse and trafficking of unwholesome products.
