The Deputy Commander General of Narcotics described Dr. Ndubisi as a dependable ally who has genuinely collaborated with the agency in the fight against drug abuse, and disclosed that his immense support for the agency excited the NDLEA Chairman, Brigadier General Buba Marwa (Rtd), hence his induction as WADA Ambassador.

Present at the event were ACGN Stella Ngwoke, Deputy Director, CN Anietie Nse Inam, Assistant Director (Admin), CN Mitchell Ofoyeju, Commander, Tincan Island Port Strategic Command, CN Thomas A. Uduo, Assistant Director, Assets & Financial Investigation, DCN Tijani Oladipupo Akeem, DCN Ogbaegbe Emeka Anthony, ACN Orji Ngozi Charity and CSN Jared Mbula. In the company of Dr. Ndubisi, was his delectable wife, Mrs. Sylvia Ndubisi. Others were the Chairman, Western Zone of Importers Association of Nigeria (IMAN), as well as Chairman, Association of Igbo Maritime Practitioners in Nigeria (ASIMPIN) Elders’ Forum, Chief Dr. Austin Kelly, His Royal Highness, Eze E.S. Onuoha, the Coordinator IMAN, Chief Simon Ezeji, Chief Nnamdi Matthew, Muhammad Kabir Orjiegbulam, PRO, IMAN, and Business Mogul, Chief Chika Okoro.

Addressing newsmen at the event, the Commander, Tincan Port Strategic Command, CN Mitchell Ofoyeju, said that the induction of Dr. George Ndubisi as WADA Partner and NDLEA Ambassador, was a significant milestone in the fight against drug abuse. He said that Dr. Ndubisi has been very supportive of NDLEA, adding that his official induction as a partner has saddled him with much responsibilities as he would assist them in sensitizing the public on the hazards of drug abuse to individuals and its negative impacts in the larger society. He was optimistic that Dr. Ndubisi would remain passionately involved in the crusade.

Ofoyeju stated that the role of NDLEA in curbing the spread of controlled drugs should not be overemphasized, adding that the agency could not do without the collaboration and support of well meaning Nigerians. He blamed most failed marriages, robbery, mindless killings and a large chunk of out of school population on drug related issues, describing drug addiction as an evil wind that blows no one any good.

In his response, Dr. George Ndubisi expressed his readiness to do anything within his power to add fresh impetus to the war against drug abuse. He went ahead to highlight some of the negative effects of drug abuse in the society, and urged parents and teachers to be more vigilant. He also advised Clearing Agents and those in haulage business to apply caution, saying that a good number of innocent citizens are languishing in jail over what they know nothing about. Dr. Ndubisi assured that IMAN would work assiduously with the Federal and State governments, security outfits and agencies like NDLEA, SON, NAFDAC, The Nigeria Customs and the Nigerian police to come up with a regulatory App that would streamline importation procedures targeted at making importers adhere strictly to trade rules. He was optimistic that the software, when activated, would grossly curtail the influx of unwholesome drugs into the country.

In his goodwill message on behalf of the Agency, DCN Tijani Oladipupo, urged Dr. Ndubisi not to relent in his good works. He passionately reminded the inductee that the recognition was not because of any other thing but a clarion call to do more for fatherland. He stated that, though, the inductee was handed neither a sword nor a gun, but he could do a lot more by sensitizing the general public on the menace of drug abuse by whatever means he chooses, as well as selflessly and genuinely partnering with the agency in its numerous programmes.
