CONMMEP Roundtable: AREFFN Chieftain Metu, Tasks Agencies, Regulators To Emulate Customs Leadership

Barr. Metu Augustine Ejike, a multifaceted personality with diverse experience in various fields, has delivered a thought-provoking analysis on national issues at the Congress of Nigerian Maritime Media Practitioners’ – CONMMEP round table conference.
As the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Association of Registered Freight Forwarders of Nigeria- AREFFN, Barr. Metu brought a unique perspective to the discussion.
He praised the Customs Area Controller at the Seme Area Command, Comptroller (Dr.) Ben Oramalugo, for his effective leadership and commitment to trade facilitation and revenue generation. He emphasized the importance of good governance and leadership in driving national development.
On Fake and Adulterated Products, Metu
expressed concern about the influx of unwholesome products, and called on government agencies to take decisive action to prevent the importation and distribution of such products. He also advised journalists to expose the rot in the system, highlighting his commitment to transparency and accountability.
The veteran Actor and Customs Broker also spoke on global recognition
as he commended the election of the Comptroller-General of Customs as the chairman of the World Customs Organization (WCO) Council, suggesting that the CG’s tenure be extended to ensure continuity and stability. He also offered pragmatic views on the suspended use of code 846, advocating for a revisit of the decision to promote trade facilitation.
Barr. Metu’s contributions demonstrate his passion for national development, good governance, and the well-being of Nigerians. He advised Nigerians to remain focused, harness technology, and promote positive change to work towards a better future.
Reacting to his brilliant submission during the round table, the President of CONMMEP, Comrade Udo Onyeka commended Barr Metu for remaining objective, adding that his insightful analysis of national issues,
passion for national development and good governance, his strong stance on transparency and accountability as a politician and a leader as well as his belief in pragmatic approach to problem-solving and effective communication skill.
Onyeka urged him to always be available to the group each time an invitation is extended to him. And promised that CONMMEP would continue to engage with stakeholders on national issues.
The President of CONMMEP also urged Barr. Metu and other stakeholders to provide mentorship and support to young professionals. And tasked them on genuine collaboration with government agencies to promote trade facilitation, enhance revenue generation, as well as advocate for transparency and accountability in governance.
