APAPA CUSTOMS HARNESSES SYNERGY TO IMPROVE CARGO TRANSPORT

In its bid to facilitate trade via movement of cargo by rail, the Apapa Command of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), has resolved to leverage collaboration with key stakeholders
The decision was taken at a stakeholders meeting organised by the Command on Wednesday, 11th of June , 2025.
Representatives of the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC), importers and exporters associations, clearing agents and freight forwarders associations, port regulators and terminal operators converged to brainstorm on how to utilize the railway for easy movement of cargoes from the premier port.
Addressing stakeholders, the Customs Area Controller (CAC), Apapa Command, Compt. Babatunde Olomu, stated that the interface was in line with the directive of the Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, to enhance logistics through multimodal transport systems.
In his words, “Recall that rail has been in operation for quite a while, so we want to fine-tune the process to improve our trade objectives. When we have a seamless trade process, it will benefit our stakeholders who are here today.”
The CAC applauded the commitment and patriotism of those at the meeting, describing their participation as a “moral booster” that has nudged the premier port towards refocusing on the shared goal of efficient cargo movement.
