ASIMPIN LEADERSHIP RESOLVES CRITICAL ISSUES, CHARTS A WAY FORWARD

The leadership of Association of Igbo Maritime Practitioners in Nigeria -ASIMPIN, met to resolve some crucial issues and chart a way forward for the apex Igbo maritime body.

 

The enlarged extraordinary meeting of ASIMPIN Board of Trustees and National Executive Committee- NECOM, held on 11th and 18th March 2025, made a comprehensive review of the association’s activities in 2024. The meeting aimed at projecting and positioning ASIMPIN for future growth.

 

Meanwhile, the meeting reappraised its administrative responses to
* Members’ welfare
* Chapter administrations
* Membership mobilization and biometric registration
* Electoral processes and issues arising from chapter elections
* Election Tribunal Committee activities and reports
* 2025 year planner and decisions on establishing Eastern Zonal coordinating office

 

A communique dated 24th March, 2025, signed by the National Publicity Secretary of ASIMPIN, Dr. Obicee Okonkwo,and made available to the Media, highlighted some of the resolutions adopted at the joint extraordinary meeting to include:

“Commendation of
ASIMPEC and the Election Tribunal Committee (ETC) for their professionalism; Acknowledgement of noticeable shortcomings, emphasized the importance of forgiveness and unity;
The results of chapter elections conducted by ASIMPEC were adopted;
An appeal was made to aggrieved members, especially contestants, to put aside their differences and work together for ASIMPIN’s well-being;
Contestants were encouraged to join hands with elected executives to promote ASIMPIN’s mission and vision.”

Furthermore, the leadership resolved that:

“All pending chapter elections and bye-elections should be concluded by ASIMPEC on or before the 30th of April 2025;
Mr. Henry Ikwue was appointed Presidential Liaison Officer on Inter-Agency Affairs, effective 24th March 2025; A new date for the inauguration and swearing-in of elected chapter executives will be announced soon; Ahead of the inauguration ceremony, a leadership training program would be organized to equip the new executives with necessary skills and knowledge.
A National Finance Reconciliation Committee will be set up to reconcile chapter accounts and repatriate funds to the National Account;
And that the biometric registration committee has been reopened for members to complete their registration;
The office of Tincan Chapter Secretary has been declared vacant and is open for re-contest;
All members, outgoing and incoming officers, are directed to conduct themselves with professionalism, maturity, and discipline;
And finally, the ASIMPIN leadership has approved the opening of the Zonal Coordinating Office, which will be operational ahead of the national executive officers’ election slated for July 2025,” the communique stated.
