Congress of Nigerian Maritime Media Practitioners -CONMMEP, on Thursday, 27th of February, 2025, elected new executive officers.

 

 

The keenly contested election produced Comrade Udo Onyeka, Publisher of News Business as President. Udo Onyeka, before his election, served as the Vice president of the group. He will be taking over from Alhaji Tunde Umar-Daniah who has served as President of the group for three years.

 

The elected executive officers are:

Femi Okonofua – Vice President

Bolaji Israel- General Secretary,

LOD Onyeji- Assistant General Secretary,

Adeola Oluwole-  Treasurer.

Isaac Ajiboye – Financial Secretary,

Mcanthony Onuoha- Public Relations officer (PRO).

Ilebani Titilayo – Welfare Officer

Izuchukwu Ahuchaogu – Provost.

 

In his acceptance speech, Udo Onyeka promised to carry everybody along, soliciting the support of all members. He assured that he would work with every member to take CONMMEP to greater height. According to him, “our association is poised to enter a new phase, and l am committed to taking conscientious and systemic steps towards actualizing the desires of all members.”

LEFT- RIGHT: The Chairman of CONMMEP Electoral Committee, Charles Onwuatuogwu, the outgoing President of CONMMEP, Alhaji Tunde Umar, the President Elect, Comrade Udo Onyeka, Committee Secretary, Hyacinth and a member of the committee, High Darlington Umoru.

 

Furthermore, Onyeka emphasized the importance of productivity and professionalism among members, and encouraged them to always strive for excellence in the discharge of their professional duties. He promised to consolidate the achievements of his predecessor, Alhaji Tunde Umar-Daniah, and assured that he would run the affairs of the association transparently and constitutionally, with focus on accountability and welfare of all members.

Appreciating members for their peaceful conduct during the election, the pioneer president of CONMMEP, Alhaji Tunde Umar-Daniah, expressed happiness for a very peaceful exercise, saying that it attested to the immense love members have for one another. He urged the new president to sustain the unity that exists among members by treating everyone with dignity and respect due them as friends and professional colleagues. Alhaji Umar appealed to members to support the administration of Udo Onyeka by bringing innovative ideas that would benefit the entire association to the table.

 

Udo Onyeka promised to build on the achievements of the outgoing administration. He extended the olive branch to those who lost, urging them to join hands with him to take the association to the next level.

 

Udo Onyeka contested against Dili Nicholas Utomi for the office of President, while Ann Ejuka contested for Vice President and lost to Femi Okonofua. Mcanthony Onuoha was returned unopposed as the group’s PRO, while Alfred Omenihu stepped down for Bolaji Israel who emerged as General Secretary. The election ended on a very peaceful note.
