Kirikiri Lighter Terminal Command of the Nigeria Customs on Friday, 31st of May, 2024 was handed over to a new Controller.

Comptroller Joy Edeldouk took over from M.M. Tilly- Gyado who is now Acting Assistant Comptroller General of Customs.

Compt. Edeldouk at the event, promised to collaborate with freight forwarders, sister agencies and other relevant stakeholders to revive moribund terminals under KLT Command.

The new KLT Controller harped on 48 hours Service delivery and called on her management team to rise to the occasion. In her words, ” let us give them 48 hours Service delivery, it is possible. We have to be friendly and accessible to achieve it. I am going to run an open door policy here in KLT, whatever is your challenge, come to me and we will sort it out together”.

According to her, revenue generation is the Key Performance Index (KPI) of Customs officers hence, the need to work together to revive the ailing terminals in order to improve on the revenue of the command.

In her address, she said that her administration would work on three pillars which include, Consolidation, Collaboration and Innovation. she promised to consolidate on the gains already made by the command as well as work in collaboration with stakeholders to improve on what her predecessor left on ground.

Comptroller Joy Edeldouk added that she would run an open door policy and called on everyone who holds a stake in the Command to come up with suggestions and innovative proposals that would move the command to the next level.

“I implore you to join hands with me to take the command to the next level because it is not what I can do alone. I will also implore you to come forward with your suggestions on how to move the command forward.”

“For terminals that are moribund, we are going to work together with you to bring them back to life. We need to go all out and negotiate it since you only get what you negotiate, and l want to assure you all that we will make this Command friendly.”

Comptroller Edeldouk also promised that she would make sure that service delivery at the command is within 48 hours.

Earlier, in her speech, the immediate past Controller of the Command, Tilly- Gyado, who recently, was appointed Acting ACG in the NCS Headquarters, Human Resources Department expressed confidence on the ability of her Successor, saying that she is very capable of taking the Command to the next level.

Furthermore, she appreciated members of her management team, officers and stakeholders for their unwavering support during her stay at the Command.

According to her, “We relied solely on transires and stem cargoes, that would give us low cargo output but between January to May, 2024, we have generated N36.6 billion. That represents 75 percent increase when you compare it to the same period, last year”.

“We established and extended terminal availability with resumption of CESTAC because when I came here, CESTAC was almost moribund but we revitalised that with the launching of new bonded terminal.

According to her, KLT terminal transformed from simple export transit area to Export Processing Terminal (EPT) saying that the command has exported 869 containers since it became an EPT.

Tilly- Gyado attributed the achievements of the command to the resilience of the officers even as she appreciated the officers for their cooperation despite stressing them out to achieve the feats.

Meanwhile, officers and stakeholders at the event took their turns to eulogize the immediate past Controller, as many prayed for her, wishing her well in her future endeavours.
