… Vows to Intensify Anti- graft Campaign

A new book, The Toll of Corruption in Nigeria was on the 18th of September, 2025, launched in Lagos.
The book, written by the National President of National Compliance Joint Taskforce of Licensed Clearing Agents- NCJTFLCA, High Chief Dr Basil Chudi Nwolisa, is an exposé of the egregious effects of endemic corruption that has eaten deeply into the fabrics of various sectors of the economy.

Maritime stakeholders and Captains of industry who graced the occasion were optimistic that intensifying anti Corruption campaign in all sectors of the economy could bath a new era of social reengineering.

The Book Reviewer, Dr. Chris Banye, a Retired Comptroller of Customs, applauded the Author for aptly exposing injustice and charting a new course through advocacy, transparency, and reform; adding that by naming the practices for what they are, and demanding accountability, citizens could begin to loosen the grip of corruption on their daily lives.

The book clearly states how illicit checkpoints inflate prices, talks about the bureaucracy that feeds corruption, Non-State Actors and the business of extortion, and exposes why the system persists, the economic consequences and calls for genuine reform.

According to the Author, ” Ending illicit checkpoints requires more than arrests, their must be simplification of Customs procedures, Digital tracking of trucks and payments; whistle blower protection for drivers, clear identification of legitimate checkpoints, and most importantly, collective refusal to accept that “this is how it has always been”.

According to Nwolisa, “In writing The Toll of Corruption: The Role of Illicit Checkpoints in the Exorbitant Prices of Goods Across Nigeria, my goal was simple yet urgent: to bring visibility to what so many Nigerians already know but often feel powerless to challenge. I set out to document how corruption multiplies costs at every stage of the supply chain and to tell the human stories behind these figures. The trader who can no longer restock, the transporter who fears the road, and the family who pays more for less every day.”
The event which held at Rockview Hotel Festac Town, Amuwo Odofin, Lagos, was chaired by a renowned Customs Broker and Chieftain of Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents -ANLCA, Chief Ernest Elochukwu, ably represented by Former President of National Council for Managing Directors of Licensed Customs Agents -NAMDLCA, and President Emeritus of Association of Igbo Maritime Practitioners in Nigeria -ASIMPIN, Comrade Ben Uche Ndee.
