Contestants in the forthcoming Association of Igbo Maritime Practitioners in Nigeria-ASIMPIN Chapter elections, have be cautioned against disorderly conducts.

The Chairman of ASIMPIN Electoral Commission – ASIMPEC, Mr. Chijioke Daniels Nkwazema, handed the warning following the disturbing news of misconduct filtering in from some Chapters.

ASIMPEC CHAIRMAN, MR. CHIJIOKE DANIELS NKWAZEMA

Just yesterday, Monday, 11th of November 2024, it was reported that ASIMPIN, Tincan Chapter members almost clashed due to serious disagreements that were triggered by what seems like an imposition of another serious screening on members, which according the outgoing leadership, was intended to ascertain individual membership record before issuing out the biometric cards, which are expected to serve as voter’s cards in the elections.

Following the fracas,
Mr. Nkwazema has passionately pleaded to all the contestants to conduct themselves in orderly and most responsible manner.

A statement he personally signed and made available to The Prestige Magazine Online, read in part;

“My fellow Comrades, l am constrained to make this passionate plea to all contestants irrespective of the group or camp you belong, l am equally convinced that the ultimate goal for this election is to reshape and rebuild the image of ASIMPIN to the admiration of maritime practitioners and lgbo nation at large. I am also convinced that every contestant vying for any elective position has deep passion for ASIMPIN. One thing I want to remind us is that ASIMPIN is a None Profit Organisation and more or less a pressure group. I don’t think that this election warrants us to devide as brothers; except there is any other thing hidden which I don’t know. We should not allow it to create ememity among us strectching into States, and tribal lines.”

“None of the contestants can claim to await salary at the end of the day. Are we now turning a selfless commitment to war among brothers? Please let’s retrace our steps by not escalating this disorderliness.”

“I urge every contestant in this election to see it as mere fun rather than war. Election will come and go and we will still remain brothers, more united than ever. Let us not see it as a do or die affair please my people. I believe the electoral body will do the needful by allowing a level playing ground for the best candidates to emerge.”

“All  eligible voters and contestants must try and update their chapter monthly dues for at least 2yrs as approved by the NEC and BOT members with evidence of payment among other guidelines that must be adheard to”, he stated.

Recall that ASIMPEC has fixed ASIMPIN Chapter elections for 5th of December, 2024, and has lifted ban on electioneering campaign of which some of the contestants have kicked started in earnest.

The electoral process commenced with biometric capture exercise for all financially up to date members. The exercise, according to the leadership of the Association would continue for a long while to enable those who have not perfected their registration to do so.
