As part of celebrating the world’s International Women’s Day, the Chairperson of Customs Officers Wife Association (COWA) Tincan Island Chapter, Mrs. Chinelo Dera Nnadi
has appealed for women inclusion in political appointments.

Mrs Dera Nnadi who spoke during the celebration of this year’s International Women’s day on Tincan Island, Lagos, equally encouraged women to be tolerant, teachable ,accommodating and above all have the fear of God in whatever they do.

The event which gave an ample opportunity to female Customs officers, sister agencies and other maritime stakeholders to discuss on feminine issues, share experiences and Challenges, was well organized.

Speaking on the activities of the Association, the Chairperson of COWA, Tincan Chapter stated that, “what we do is all about bringing women to limelight. Women are always sidelined so we are advocating that they should be adequately carried along in political appointments, public service and every sector of the economy. We are not agitating for equality but inclusivity, we want women to be loved and respected”.

According to her, “COWA is about empowering women in the society and giving them that sense of belonging”.

While sharing her wealth of experience on the theme, “Invest In A Woman; Accelerate Progress,” the former Customs, Deputy Comptroller General (DCG) Catherine Ekekezie (rtd), highlighted some of the qualities of a good woman as Humility, honestly, integrity, decency, modesty in all areas, she emphasised that a good woman must have the fear of God regardless of religious leaning .

She advised women to stop taking the back sit but be very proactive, get informed with current happenings and always strive to upgrade their status via capacity building.

In her words, “inasmuch as we agree that it is men’s world and are not dragging their space with them, but every woman must be very supportive of her husband and should not be over dependent because women were naturally created to be help mates.”
